Potassium deficiency and cardiac catecholamine metabolism in the rat.

چکیده

Norepinephrine metabolism, arterial blood pressure, and electrolytes were studied in rats maintained on either potassium-deficient or control diets. After 3 weeks on the test diets, the arterial blood pressure was significantly lower and the ratio of [Na] to ,[K] in cardiac tissue was significantly higher in potassiumdeficient rats as compared to controls. Ten minutes after intravenous injection of H-norepinephrine the specific activity of cardiac norepinephrine was similar in the control and potassium-deficient groups despite a significant increase in endogenous norepinephrine concentration in the potassium-deficient hearts. But 24 hours after injection, there was a significant increase in H-norepinephrine specific activity, concentration, and content in the potassium-deficient group. Cardiac tissue monoamine oxidase activity was similar in both groups. The increased H-norepinephrine retention and concentration and the decreased arterial blood pressure of the potassium-deficient rate suggest an impairment in norepinephrine release by the sympathetic neurons.

Catecholamine Contents of Different Region of Adult Rat Brain Are Altered Following Short and Long-term Exposures to Pb+2

Catecholamine is a group of neurotransmitters that is believed to be responsible for the normal function of animal brain. Physiological and behavioral changes of human body have been reported due to the damage of the brain function following lead exposure. Due to the assumption of lead disposal in brain tissue with two year for its half-life, which results in alteration of brain function, we in...

Electrical Properties of Isolated Cardiomyocytes in a Rat Model of Thiamine Deficiency

In modern society, thiamine deficiency (TD) remains an important medical condition linked to altered cardiac function. There have been contradictory reports about the impact of TD on heart physiology, especially in the context of cardiac excitability. In order to address this particular question, we used a TD rat model and patch-clamp technique to investigate the electrical properties of isolat...

Effect of pre-treatment with oxytocin on cardiac enzymes in regional ischemiareperfusion injury induced in the rat heart

Introduction: Cardiac preconditioning represents the most potent and consistently reproducible method of rescuing heart tissue from undergoing irreversible ischemic damage. The aim of the present study was to evaluate oxytocin (OT) induced cardioprotection and its signaling pathways on lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and creatine kinase-MB isoenzyme (CK-MB) in the anesthetized rats. Methods: Ei...
